Medical University of Białystok has been established 60 years ago when the Ministry Board from 3.02.1950. called the Medical Academy up as a 500 th Medical Faculty in the world and 10th in Poland.
There were plenty of initiations such as: State Clinical Hospital, establishing Stomatology Department and Pharmacology Department with the department of Medical Analytics have been opened.
Moreover, the didactic facilities were enlarged and the Nursery Department was opened which has been changed into The Faculty of Medical Health in 2003.
After the acceptation of the state rules, the resolution about giving the University title to the Medical Academy on 22.03.2008.
It is also worth to mention that our University provides modern science and researching infrastructure:
The Experimental Medicine Centre which is one of the most modern Centres in Europe as well as European Laboratory of Medicaments analysis, including Lithuania, Poland and Kaliningrad area.
96 professors and 95 habilitated doctors as well as 750 academic teachers provide one of the highest quality factors and place our University in the list of the most prestigious Universities in Poland.
The faculty of pharmacy with department of stomatology and education in English language as well as the Faculty of Pharmacy with laboratory medicine are in the newest ranking prepared by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in 1st category among departments in the country.
Currently, there are 4439 students at 14 specializations. A big challenge - establishing the 6 years programme in English at Medicine Faculty was managed in 2004.
From next year, our University will conduct classes for American students.
We also publish 2 international magazines: Advances in Medical Sciences i Folia Histochemica et Cytobiologica.
Currently, the Medical University of Białystok is a partner with 20 international institutions. We believe that developing this kind of cooperation with other European countries and United States of America, Japan can bring only benefits.
Simultaneously, we realize the policy of European Lectures dedicated to the academic community, especially concerning the visiting professors - overwhelming specialists with great scientific experience.
University gained the funds from European Union, we still apply for them as well as continue the construction of Didactic Faculty of Health Sciences and European Centre.
We also reconstruct the didactic units within the framework of Innovation support activities.
It is significant for both the University and the city development to gain these funds – thanks to them the development and enlarging the University’s facilities such as the Clinical Hospital will be possible.
We will have the most modern didactic base in Poland after couple of years.
It is also worth to mention that the University’s residence is a Palace of Braniccy from XVIII century - the Podlasie attraction. This palace is being still reconstructed and renovated and opened for all tourists.

Student programs
During the academic year 2009/2010, the Medical University of Białystok has been realizing plenty of activities within the framework of ERAZMUS and Lifelong Learning Programme: going to study abroad, 3 months internships, academic teachers meetings in order to train and develop their skills.
There were 7 students who went to study medicine at partner universities.
On the other hand, 8 international students came here to study at our University. Moreover, 2 students from Kilonia, Germany attended the interships, 4 students were qualified for 3 months internship (July - September) in Germany within the framework of ERASMUS in France, Portugal, Germany and Czech Republic.
Furthermore, 7 academic employees took part in trainings in the Czech Republic, France, Spain and UK. Our University also gained the funds from National Agency of Erasmus Programme for students, academic teachers, administration staff exchange for 2010/2011 Academic Year as well as for the Exchange organization in amount of 55 950 euro. In April 2010 the University’s Commission qualified 28 students for Erasmus Programme in Academic Year 2010/2011.
