Rzeszów University of Technology

Rzeszów University of Technology is a public higher educational institution which is a part of national system of education.

Rzeszów University of Technology educates and conducts research in the field of engineering, mathematics, physics, biology and economics. Due to the cooperation with the industry it improves educative programmes which prepare graduates for the active participation in social and economic life, both in national and regional aspect.

The educational process aims also to train the students according to the respect of the human rights, patriotism, sensitivity on the society`s fortune, state, tolerance, responsibility and reliable fulfilling of one`s duties.

By its actions the university promotes and looks after the humanistic ideas propagated and realized by university`s Patron – Ignacy Łukasiewicz.

At present in the university study about 13,5 thousand people in 5 departments and over 20 faculties.

The university has the right to grant doctor`s academic degree in four departments:

• The Building and Environmental Engineering Faculty has the right to grant the doctor`s engineering degree in the field of “building engineering”
• The Machine Building and Aviation Faculty has the right to grant the doctor`s engineering degree in the field of “machine building and exploitation” and “mechanics”
• The Chemical Faculty has the right to grant the doctor`s chemistry degree in the field of “chemical technology” and “chemical engineering”
• The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty has the right to grant the doctor`s engineering degree in the field of “electrical engineering”

The right to grant higher doctor’s engineering degree has The Machine Building and Aviation Faculty in the field of “machine building and exploitation” and “mechanics” and Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering inf the field of "Electro techniques".

Since 1976 The Machine Building and Aviation Faculty also conducts education of pilots for civil aviation. The graduates receive the title of vocational master engineer (Master of Science) or engineer of the mechanic faculty with aviation speciality as well as the Commercial Pilot License (CPL) entitled to fly according to infrared devices (IR) and Multi Engine airplanes (ME).

The courses covering flying education are held in Air Education Centre of Rzeszów University of Technology in Jasionka and the trainings with gliders are held in Academic Glider Centre in Bezmiechowa.

The university ensures that the employees and the students will have exceptionally good conditions for the creative development. Due to the opening of the academic community to the problems of the modern world and in particular due to the researches in the fields of engineering science, chemistry, economics and humanities the university assists the development in regional and even wider aspect.

Studying conditions

Rzeszów University of Technology's campus is credited as one of the most beautiful In Poland. It`s an oasis of green lying near the city centre. Rzeszów University of Technology's campus consists not only of the student hostels for over 2,5 thousand. Here functions Student`s Club PLUS in which are organised discos and other cultural events such as concerts, dancing courses, evenings with advertisements, students `song reviews and cabaret performances. It is the oldest place of student`s meeting in Rzeszów which has over 30 years of tradition.

Near the academics you will find health care facilities, chemist`s, exterior amphitheatre in which the concerts, reviews and theatre performances are held. There is also Students` Culture Centre with multimedia cinema “Helios”, “Antresola” pub which offers a dozen of billiard tables, bar chains, sports halls, tennis courts, sports fields for basketball and beach volleyball, news-stands and grocery stores, hairdresser`s, Xerox outlets and other places.

At student`s disposal there is a complex of seven well-equipped academics named "Akapit", "Alchemik", "Arcus", "Ikar", "Nestor", "Pingwin", "Promień" and "Aviata" with the headquarters in Jasionka near the airport where the future adepts of flying will live. All of the student hostels have a great standard of finishing and equipment. The rooms are for single, double and triple use and have a connection with internet and TV network. In university student hostel`s there are also fitness rooms, laundries, shops and in DS “Ikar” well-equipped computer rooms available for all of the students.

Moreover the campus offers:

• Five smaller and two bigger fitness rooms – equipped with multi-gyms, exercise bikes, treadmills and other instruments
• Game rooms, among other things equipped with table tennis and table football
• Parking lot with place for 250 cars and a dozen of buses
• Health care carried out by the Specialist Student`s Health Centre "Medyk"
• Unforgettable parties at the "Plus" Student`s Club

The dormitories are surrounded with vast green belt well suitable for the leisure activities and recreation. Comfort, attractiveness and location, video surveillance combined with professional security guarantee that the students living here will feel safe and will have great conditions for learning and relaxation.

The students have the opportunity for developing their interests related to the faculties by attending and taking active part in more than 30 scientific clubs characterised by more and more interesting profiles.

One of the Universities priorities is the development of sport facilities. We are administrating the new sport hall with three full-scale sport arenas adjusted for playing basketball, volleyball, tennis, futsal as well as rooms for combat sports, fitness rooms with sauna and aerobic gear, gym room, table tennis and tennis court.

At present the students have the possibility to use a rented Rzeszów Centre for Sport and Recreation swimming-pool.

The Study also administers s sports equipment rental which among others has:

• skies, ski-boots, ski sticks
• tourist gear ( backpacks, sleeping bags, foam pads )
• mountain bikes
• sailing boats: Pegaz, El-Bimbo, Omega, Bez IV

Together with University`s AZS Club, Physical Upbringing and Sports Study conducts courses in 18 sport sections as well as many other sport and recreational events for students and school`s employees which among others includes:

• university`s games combined with student hostels` tournaments in futsal, volleyball and basketball
• academic championship of the province in a dozen of disciplines
• Polish higher education institution championship
• Participation in recreational summer camps
• many other occasional competitions according to the Club`s calendar

The beginning of the activity of student`s broadcasting station go down to the 1970 when due to the merger of the particular student hostels `radio stations one radio centre has been created. It was named Student`s Radio Rzeszów Centrum. Radio program has been broadcasted through the cables to almost 2 thousand potential listeners. The programme had typical student`s character aired in the morning and in the evening for a few hours per day. In 1994 Rzeszów University of Technology submitted to Krajowa Rada Radiofonii i Telewizji for a radio UKF programme broadcast license. On the 31 December 1994 the name and the idea of the radio programme were changed and as Academic Radio Centrum (ARC) it became the first local commercial station broadcasting in Rzeszów. The listeners of ARC, apart from many local information, with every hour get a news program which includes the latest news from the country and the world. One of the radio`s strengths is a rich offer of the programs run by individual authors in such topics like education, culture and academics. ARC broadcasts on 89 MHz frequency. The broadcasting power is 100 W and allows to listen to the radio 40 km around Rzeszów. ARC reaches about 250 thousand listeners. The station has two record studios. Broadcasting studio from which the program is aired is adjusted for classic and DJ`s work styles. Editing studio is a small studio in which advertisements, radio program announcements, conversations and sound effects are edited. ARC is the radio which people in Rzeszów listen most willingly, which is proved by the huge audience ratings in public. The highest ratings are reached among the people up to 40th year of life. The listeners are young people who like good music. In April 2004 multimedia group Polish Academic Stations has been created, which consists of all licensed radio stations of academic type. Thanks to that the best journalistic materials can reach over 5 400 000 listeners and about 900 000 students in it. In May 2008 ARC received new license, which allows it to broadcast the program of an academic character until 2011.

Student programs

Erasmus is a programme of cooperation between higher education institutions. It is destined mainly for the higher education institutions, their students and employees. Other institutions, organisations and enterprises, which cooperate with the schools may also take part in some actions. The aim of Erasmus is improving the quality of education in the countries participating in this programme by encouraging international cooperation between higher education institutions and supporting students and teachers mobility. The programme is patronised by Desiderius Erasmus (1469-1536) also known as Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam. He considered the idea of wisdom as the key to the mutual understanding between the countries. He was also a great expert on theology, education, rhetoric and classical studies as well as brilliant satirist. He studied and taught in France, England, Italy, Switzerland and nowadays Belgium. Since the academic year 2007/08 Erasmus is a part of the new EU`s programme in the field of education and vocational training called "The Lifelong Learning Programme", which will be implemented in 2007-2013.

Erasmus enables the universities to:

• lead student`s exchange including:
• sending students for a part of their studying period to the cooperating colleges in countries participating in the programme and receiving students from those colleges (in the hosting colleges the students finish a settled set of courses which lasts from 3 months up to one academic year)
• sending students for training to the institutions, companies, organisations in European countries for a period of 3-12 months during the same academic year
• lead the employees` exchange including:
• academic teachers
• sending academic teachers to the cooperating colleges and receiving teachers from those colleges, who will lead the courses
• sending academic teachers to the cooperating colleges and other institutions, organisations, enterprises which cooperate with them in order to train them (improvement of qualifications, widening of knowledge in particular fields, participation in the trainings, etc.)
• other employees (i.e. people working in administration)
• sending employees to the cooperating colleges and receiving employees from those colleges in order to help them improve their skills (ie. during the study visits)

The colleges which exchange the students and the employees may receive a bailout for the actions connected to the organisation of the exchange, ie. exchange advertisements, preparations for the leaving students and employees (arrangements, language teaching), the care of students coming from abroad, ie. language courses, “integration” programs, etc.

On the basis of Erasmus Programme the students have the guarantee that:

• they will get a grant which helps to pay for the difference of costs connected to the living in another country
• they will get an exemption from the payment of the tuition in the partner`s college
• the period of studying abroad will be credited
• the status of the student of Rzeszów University of Technology will be held
• they will have the possibility to take up a vocational training

Erasmus Programme gives you the possibility to learn:

• foreign language particularly concerning technical language
• tradition, culture, customs of a different country and the opportunity to see monuments and interesting places

• get friends not only from Europe
• become more mature and self-confident
• acquire the ability to cope with new situations and looking for new solutions

The European Credit Transfer System helps to precisely determine and evaluate the scholar`s contribution which is needed to evaluate the settled set of courses. 60 credit points are given for each academic year and 30 for each semester which every student of Rzeszów University of Technology has to earn will studying abroad.

Formal criteria for the candidates:

The student should be:

• officially registered on the faculty leading to receive the title of Bachelor or Master degree
• at least on the second year of the studies
• the citizen of a country participating in the Erasmus Programme or have the official refugee status or the right of permanent residence in Poland

The candidates are evaluated on the basis of:

• Grade Point Average from the whole study period and for the last semester
• knowledge of foreign language proved by the certificate of the Studium Nauki Języków Obcych Politechniki Rzeszowskiej (Rzeszów University of Technology Foreign Languages Study)
• dean`s approval

Candidates recruitment of the students willing to study on the basis of Erasmus Programme in the cooperating college lasts each year for the whole March. The following documents should be submitted in the Department for Foreign Cooperation: written application with a valid dean`s approval, evaluation of GPA from the whole study period and for the last semester with the confirmation from dean`s office. After the end of the recruitment the candidates must pass a foreign language examination.

RRzeszów University of Technology signed 43 bilateral agreements within the Erasmus programme with schools in 19 countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Spain, Iceland, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, Great Britain and Italy.

The list of the partner colleges can be found on the web pages of the Rzeszów University, which consecutively works on its widening. The number of places for the students who wants to leave is raising with each year. The people willing to take up this opportunity may do it only once during the whole study period. The students who as part of their studies learned in foreign cooperating college may also take up a vocational training abroad.
